Voluntary Recall After Labeling Error
An independent bottler voluntarily recalled thousands of cans of 7Up Zero Sugar Tropical Soda after a labeling error was discovered.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported that the cans were labeled “Zero Sugar” but actually contained the full-sugar version.
Buffalo Rock Company Inc., based in Birmingham, Alabama, issued the recall on July 31 after detecting the production error.
In total, more than 20,000 aluminum cans of 355 milliliters were affected by the mistake.

The soda was distributed in three states: Alabama, Florida, and Georgia, according to the FDA’s official notice, cited by USA Today.
The recall covers 1,954 cases of 12 cans each, for a total of 23,448 units in circulation.

The UPC code for the cans is 078000037975, while the carton cases carry the code 078000037982.
The recalled product specifically corresponds to the tropical variety of 7Up Zero Sugar, manufactured by Buffalo Rock as an authorized bottler.
Response From Keurig Dr Pepper and PepsiCo

Neither Keurig Dr Pepper, owner of the 7Up formula, nor PepsiCo, responsible for its international distribution, immediately responded to requests for comment.
The notice does not include specific instructions for consumers who may have purchased the mislabeled soda.
The FDA advises that, in most recalls, consumers should stop using the product and either return or safely discard it.
So far, no health incidents have been reported related to consumption of these beverages.
Health Risks
The labeling error poses a particular risk for individuals who avoid sugar for medical reasons such as diabetes.
The confusion could affect consumers who rely on diet products to manage their glucose levels.
Voluntary recalls are part of food safety protocols designed to prevent harm before products reach the wider public.
Although 7Up Zero Sugar is not manufactured directly by Keurig Dr Pepper in the United States, the company delegates production to regional bottlers like Buffalo Rock.
The incident highlights the need for stricter quality controls in the bottling and distribution chain.
The FDA notice remains available on its official website so consumers can verify the information.
The 7Up soda recall also raises questions about the traceability of sodas and how quickly errors can be detected.
