By early afternoon on January 25, the total had already exceeded $530,000.
According to the fundraiser’s description, the funds are intended to cover the family’s immediate and ongoing needs.
The campaign organizer is Keith Edwards.
Edwards reported that Pretti’s father was added as the official beneficiary.
This allows the family to have direct access to the donated funds.
In a public message, Edwards thanked those who donated or shared the campaign.
“You are the best image of America,” he wrote.
The Context of the Shooting
Alex Pretti was a U.S. citizen and a licensed nurse.
As part of his professional work, he provided care to veterans.
He was killed following an encounter with federal immigration authorities.
Federal officials stated that Pretti was armed.
They also claimed he intended to use the weapon to “kill law enforcement.”
However, videos recorded by bystanders do not show Pretti brandishing a weapon.
Testimony from a witness included in court documents aligns with those videos.
In that material, Alex Pretti is not seen threatening agents as he approached.
The agent who fired the shots is a member of the U.S. Border Patrol.
The case has raised serious questions about the use of force by federal agents.
National Reaction and Federal Deployment
The shooting occurred weeks after another fatal incident involving ICE.
In that earlier case, an agent shot and killed Renee Nicole Good.
Following Alex Pretti’s death, immediate protests erupted across the country.
Public reaction intensified after the January 24 shooting.
In early January, federal agents were deployed to Minneapolis.
The goal was to intensify immigration enforcement and deportation efforts under the administration of Donald Trump.
Agents from multiple law enforcement agencies participated in that deployment.
Minnesota was not the only state to receive federal reinforcements.
Agents were also sent to cities such as Los Angeles.
Portland was another city included.
Charlotte also reported a federal presence.
Chicago is among the cities with similar operations.
Both Portland and Chicago have reported shootings involving ICE.
In one of those cases, immigrant Silverio Villegas-González was killed.
The death of Alex Pretti has become a central point in the national debate.
The fundraising campaign reflects strong public support for his family.
It also underscores the broader impact of the case on public opinion.
