- Amazon cookies recalled.
- Potential for severe allergic reactions.
- Buyer warning issued.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a high-risk alert.
This is regarding Amazon Fresh Jumbo Sugar Cookies due to the presence of undeclared egg.
This ingredient poses a serious allergen risk, potentially triggering severe reactions, including anaphylaxis and, in extreme cases, death.
The recall has been classified as «Class 1», the FDA’s most severe category, reserved for products posing a serious health hazard.
Amazon Cookie Recall Announcement

The alert affects cookies sold between January 15 and January 25, 2025, although the FDA did not officially classify the recall until March 5.
According to the FDA, egg allergies can cause symptoms such as: Throat swelling, difficulty breathing, circulatory system collapse.

These reactions can be fatal without immediate medical treatment.
Although Amazon Fresh recalled the cookies in January, the FDA took several weeks to evaluate the case, classify the risk, and issue a warning.
Reports from Infobae indicate that such delays are common in food recalls due to FDA safety protocols.
As of now, Amazon Fresh has not released an official statement, and the FDA continues to list the recall as «ongoing», with no specified end date.
The recall includes three versions of the Jumbo Sugar Cookies:
- Jumbo Sugar Cookie (12-pack, baked) – Sold between January 15 and January 25, 2025.
2. Jumbo Sugar Cookie (individual, baked) – Sold between January 22 and January 25, 2025.
3. Bake-At-Home Jumbo Sugar Cookie Dough (frozen dough) – Last sold on January 25, 2025.
While the baked cookies have already expired, the greatest danger comes from the frozen cookie dough, which may still be stored in consumers’ freezers.
This product poses an ongoing risk to individuals with egg allergies.
The FDA urges consumers to check their products and dispose of any affected batches.
For individuals without egg allergies, consumption of the cookies does not pose a risk. However, households with allergy sufferers should avoid them entirely.
In the U.S., product recalls follow a specific protocol:
The company detects an issue and either voluntarily recalls the product or is ordered to do so by the FDA.
The problem is identified and reported to the FDA. The FDA assesses the risk and issues a public alert.
The FDA classifies recalls into three categories based on severity:
Class 1: High risk of severe health issues or death (e.g., undeclared allergens, bacterial contamination).
Class 2: Minor or reversible risks, such as labeling errors without immediate health consequences.
Class 3: Regulatory noncompliance that does not directly threaten health.
In this case, the «Class 1» classification underscores the severity of the issue, requiring urgent consumer action.
Health authorities urge individuals with egg allergies to check their pantry and freezer to prevent potential adverse reactions.
Consumers are advised to contact Amazon Fresh to inquire about refunds or product exchanges.
This case has raised concerns in the food industry, emphasizing the importance of accurate labeling on products.
The FDA continues to monitor the situation and may take additional actions if necessary.
For now, Amazon Fresh is expected to release an official statement regarding its future preventive measures.
