  • Amazon confirms layoffs: reduction of 14,000 corporate positions
  • Cuts aim to streamline operations and boost efficiency
  • Affected workers to receive support and severance packages

Amazon has informed employees that it will implement organizational changes resulting in the elimination of approximately 14,000 jobs over the coming months.

The decision, announced by Beth Galetti, Senior Vice President of People Experience and Technology, is part of an internal plan to “strengthen teams, reduce layers, and focus on the areas of greatest impact.”

According to Galetti, the measure continues Amazon’s recent push to operate “like the world’s largest startup” — emphasizing speed, accountability, and innovation.

Team leaders have already begun notifying affected employees as the company restructures its global workforce.

Amazon Layoffs: Another Round of Restructuring

The job cuts add to a wave of layoffs hitting other major tech and retail corporations.

  • Target recently announced the closure of 800 open positions and the elimination of 1,800 corporate roles.
  • Meta Platforms, parent company of Facebook and Instagram, laid off 600 employees, while Microsoft eliminated 9,000 jobs in July.

Amazon explained that while some divisions will see reductions, others will expand — ensuring continued investment in key technology and logistics sectors.

The company emphasized that it will keep hiring in areas of innovation while streamlining its internal structure.

Severance Packages: What Amazon Offers to Affected Employees

Amazon stated that it will work to support those losing their jobs.

Most impacted employees will have 90 days to find a new role within the company, with recruiting teams prioritizing internal candidates.

Those unable to relocate internally will receive severance pay, temporary healthcare coverage, and career placement assistance.

These measures are designed to ease the transition and lessen the financial strain on affected households.

Impact on Hispanic Workers and Undocumented Employees

The Amazon layoffs could significantly affect the Latino community, which makes up a large portion of its warehouse and corporate workforce.

For many immigrant workers, Amazon represents job stability, access to benefits, and opportunities for advancement.

However, undocumented workers are not eligible for state unemployment benefits.

Still, under federal law (Fair Labor Standards Act), they remain entitled to full payment for all hours worked, including overtime.

They can also file claims for unpaid wages or unfair working conditions with the Department of Labor (DOL), regardless of immigration status.

What’s Next for Amazon

Amazon plans to continue restructuring throughout 2025, focusing resources on strategic sectors to maintain global competitiveness.

The company’s goal, it says, is to “keep hiring in critical areas while removing unnecessary layers.”

By 2026, Amazon expects to complete its internal reorganization.

Analysts predict that similar workforce reductions will continue across major tech firms as the sector adapts to economic challenges and automation trends.
