The prosecution called the crime Andy Raúl Carrillo was convicted of «heinous» and «predatory.»

It took a decade for the authorities to identify him as the perpetrator of a violent sexual assault on July 11, 2011, after he offered a woman a ride home.

“This conviction sends a clear message that perpetrators of such despicable acts will face the full force of the law,” said Bill Gladson, State Attorney for the Fifth Judicial Circuit, in a statement to MundoNow.

Andy Raúl Carrillo offered a woman a ride home

Bill Gladson pointed out in his statement that it doesn’t matter how much time has passed.

Andy Raúl Carrillo, who did not know the woman, offered her a ride home after running into her leaving a party in Hernando County, Florida.

«Instead of ensuring her safe return, Carrillo subjected her to a terrifying ordeal, leaving her battered and sexually assaulted on the side of the road,» the State Attorney’s Office reported.

According to police records from that date, while the woman remained in the car, Carrillo repeatedly hit her in the head with a blunt object until her skull was fractured.

The victim miraculously survived

He then pulled over to the side of the road, dragged her from the car to a line of trees and proceeded to rape her.

Miraculously, the victim survived the attack and she helped by drivers, who found her half-naked wandering through a wooded area.

«The victim’s injuries were so severe that she was airlifted to a trauma center for medical treatment,» the State Attorney added in their statement.

The case remained unsolved for almost nine years, before finally being solved thanks to a DNA in 2020.

Andy Raúl Carrillo’s DNA ended up giving him away

The breakthrough in the case came when Carrillo’s DNA was entered into CODIS, following another aggravated sexual assault that occurred in Tampa just 30 days after the attack in Hernando County, according to the investigation.

«Matching DNA recovered from the victim’s sexual assault exam revealed a chilling pattern, linking Carrillo to both cases,» the report details.

Detectives from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office corroborated that the pattern of aggression against both women was the same.

«Both cases shared striking similarities, with victims being targeted while walking alone late at night, subjected to brutal assaults, and left in isolated areas.»

After dozens of attempts by Andy Raúl Carrillo to evade responsibility, he will finally pay for his crimes.

He has been found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.

“Our office commends the courage and resilience of the survivors who bravely testified to ensure that Carrillo was held accountable for his crimes,” the State Attorney’s Office declared.
