Ángela Aguilar broke her silence and revealed her emotional scars at the Billboard Women in Music 2025 gala.
The Mexican singer was honored with the Breakthrough Award for her achievements in the music industry.
During the ceremony, held at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California, Ángela delivered one of the most powerful speeches of the night.
«This Breakthrough Award means so much to me, because this year almost broke me,» she said with a trembling voice.

Her words not only moved the audience but also revealed the toll that public scrutiny has taken on her personal life.
«Honestly, I’ve had to stand on stage and sing through tears. I’ve had to cry under the weight of judgment and speculation about a story I haven’t even told, a story that has never come from my own voice. And still, here I am. Still singing, still standing,» she added.
Although she never mentioned Cazzu directly, the message appeared to be a clear response to the criticism following her relationship with Christian Nodal.
Ángela and Nodal’s relationship became the target of public backlash after the singer announced his breakup with the Argentine trap artist in May 2024.
Weeks before the event, Cazzu released the track “Con otra,” fueling rumors that Ángela had interfered in their split.
Amid the scandal, the young singer was portrayed by many as the “villain” in the story.

Still, Ángela Aguilar displayed grace and resilience as she performed “Cielito lindo” onstage, accompanied by the Harmony Project community choir.
During her speech, she also shared a powerful reflection on the importance of not remaining silent.
The Singer Inspires Young Girls and Honors Her Family Legacy

“To every girl watching this, wondering if she should make herself smaller to fit into someone else’s idea of who she should be—don’t. In this world, people will try to write your story for you. Don’t let them. Sing your truth, and when they tell you to be quiet—if it’s truly what you want—sing even louder.”
Ángela used the moment to pay tribute to her family legacy and the role music has played in her life.
“Because music is who I am. It’s the thread that connects me to every woman who came before me, like my grandmother Flor Silvestre, and it taught me that the women here today are not my competition—we are each other’s legacy. She taught me you can fight in silence, and that music speaks louder than what others say.”
Ángela Aguilar also raised her voice on behalf of those who often go unheard.
“For the immigrant women in this country who work tirelessly building and nurturing, sacrificing—and still remain invisible, unheard, and unprotected—this is for you. I see you. I honor you. You deserve safety, dignity, and the right to dream. And if my voice, my music, and my presence on this stage can remind you that you are not invisible, then I will sing for you every time.”
The night also carried a personal tone, as her mother, Aneliz Álvarez Alcalá, was honored for her work as director of the independent label Machin Records.
“So tonight, I accept this award for every woman who’s ever had to break through. For my grandmother. For my mother, who is being honored tonight. And for every woman who has paved the way so that every little girl can dream. We are not falling apart. We are breaking barriers. Thank you, and long live Mexico!”
With this speech, Ángela Aguilar not only defended herself from criticism, but also reaffirmed her commitment to music, her heritage, and social causes.
