The House of Representatives approved on Thursday a controversial bill that allows for the deportation of undocumented migrants convicted of sexual offenses, including domestic violence.

This advancement, with a vote of 274 to 145, marks a new approach in the immigration policies driven by the Republican Party.

The bill, known as HR 30, was originally proposed by Republican Representative Nancy Mace of South Carolina during the 118th Congress.

“Our country has been devastated by the horror of irregular immigrants who violently rape American women and girls,” stated Mace during the debate on the bill.

“I know the lifelong, irreversible scars that these atrocious crimes leave.”

Although it did not advance in the Senate at that time, this time it gained significant support with 60 co-sponsors and strong Republican momentum.

This move also seeks to strengthen the immigration agenda of President-elect Donald Trump.

According to Representative Mace, the main objective of HR 30 is to ensure public safety by swiftly deporting undocumented individuals with a history of serious crimes.

“We are sending a clear message: sexual crimes will not be tolerated in our nation,” declared Mace after the vote.

The bill also has the support of entrepreneur and owner of X (formerly Twitter), Elon Musk.

Musk expressed his support on social media, arguing that national security is a priority and that such measures are necessary to protect citizens.

Additionally, HR 30 complements another immigration initiative: HR 29, also known as the Laken Riley Law, according to El Diario NY.

What is HR 30?

This second proposal seeks to expedite the deportation of migrants involved in minor crimes such as theft and is currently under discussion in the Senate.

However, the approval of HR 30 has generated criticism from migrant rights advocacy groups, who argue that these laws could foster discrimination and unfair deportations.

Despite the objections, the Republican Party believes that these measures reinforce public security and address the concerns of American citizens.

Attention now turns to the Senate, where the fate of these legislative proposals will determine the future of thousands of migrants in the United States.
