The first attack on U.S. military in months

This attack is the first since early February, when Iranian-backed groups in Iraq suspended their attacks on U.S. troops, Reuters reported.
Details revealed by two security sources and a senior army officer suggest that the missiles came from a rocket launcher, mounted on the back of a small truck.
The truck was strategically deployed in the border city of Zummar, adjacent to the Syrian border.
The situation became even more chaotic when the truck burst into flames due to an explosion of rockets that were not fired, coinciding with the passage of fighter jets in the sky.
Were the attackers bombed?

«We cannot confirm that the truck was bombed by U.S. warplanes unless we investigate it,» said a military official.
He asked to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of the matter.
Meanwhile, Iraqi security forces quickly mobilized in the region and launched an intensive search operation to find the perpetrators.
Those involved apparently managed to flee the area using another vehicle, as confirmed by a security official based in Zummar.
Authorities speak about the attack on U.S. military base

The Iraqi Medical Security Cell, officially in charge of disseminating security information in the country, issued a statement.
In it, they announced that Iraqi security forces had launched «a comprehensive search and inspection operation» to capture those responsible near the Syrian border, ensuring their subsequent legal prosecution.
Additionally, an army official reported that forces took possession of the truck used in the attack for further analysis. He suggested that early indications are that an airstrike may have been the cause of its destruction.
«We are communicating with coalition forces in Iraq to share information about this attack,» added the officer according to Reuters.
Another deadly attack

Meanwhile, in another conflict that has caused international concern, an Israeli airstrike hit a home in the city of Rafah, on the southern tip of the Gaza Strip.
The death toll was at least 22 people, including 18 children, according to the The Associated Press. This attack occurred as Israel continues its almost seven-month offensive in the besieged Palestinian territory.
Israel’s war against Hamas has caused tensions to escalate in the Middle East, especially with Iran in the last weeks.
Now attention turns again to Rafah, where more than half of Gaza’s roughly 2.3 million residents are sheltered — most of them displaced by fighting elsewhere.
