On April 24, 2015, that Caitlyn Jenner embraced her new identity after feeling that she had been hiding for her entire life.

After undergoing hormone therapy and several surgeries, she debuted her new look.

Weeks later, she posed for the renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz for the cover of Vanity Fair magazine.

She also legally changed her name.

If there is one day that highlighted when Caitlyn Jenner became a trans icon, it was when she received an ESPY award in July 2015.

Caitlyn received the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage.

She delivered an emotional speech that would be remembered forever.

It was especially poignant that she was embraced by the professional sports world.

She said name calling didn’t affect her

One of the first things Caitlyn Jenner said in her speech was that she wanted to inspire people, according to ESPN.

«Trans people deserve something vital; they deserve your respect,» she said. «From that respect comes a more compassionate community.»

She said name calling didn’t affect her and that she could handle it.

«My plea for you tonight is … join me in making this one of your issues as well,» she added.

Transitioning has not been easy for Caitlyn Jenner

Caitlyn Jenner said in her speech that the past few months had been a «whirlwind of experiences and emotions.»

«But to tell you the truth, it seems like every time I turn around in life, I’m putting myself in these high-pressured situations.»

At this ceremony, she was accompanied by her daughters, who couldn’t help but shed some tears.

«[W]hile it may not be easy to get past the things you always don’t understand, I want to prove that it is absolutely possible if we only do it together,» she concluded.

She is estranged from her ex Kris Kardashian

In connection with the premiere of the documentary House of Kardashian, Caitlyn Jenner gave a revealing interview in October 2023.

According to infobae, the former athlete stated that she only communicates with her ex-wife, Kris Jenner, through her manager.

«I am much closer to the Jenner side, but Kris, I really have no further contact with her,» she said.

She added that this makes her sad because they went through a lot together.
