California has been shaken by a third earthquake in less than 24 hours.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a 2.7-magnitude earthquake in Hayward at 8:03 a.m. ET on Thursday.
This seismic event follows two earlier tremors that occurred less than six hours prior off the coast of Petrolia, about 250 miles north.
The first quake struck at 2:06 a.m. ET with a magnitude of 3.3, according to the USGS.

Shortly after, at 4:51 a.m. ET, another 3.4-magnitude quake struck the same region.
Both earthquakes were located about 20 miles apart, in a coastal area of Northern California.
Unlike these, the Hayward quake occurred in a densely populated area, situated between San Francisco, Oakland, and Fremont.
The epicenter of the 2.7-magnitude quake was on the Hayward Fault, an active fault line in the San Francisco Bay Area.
