Pride Despite Defeat

Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez faced his third professional loss with composure after falling by unanimous decision to Terence Crawford at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

The Mexican boxer, visibly bruised but firm in his words, insisted that he still considers himself a champion regardless of the result.

“I still feel like a champion no matter what happens. You have to accept defeats. In three or four weeks I’ll talk with my team and see what comes next,” he told the press.

At 35 years old, the Guadalajara native acknowledged that the fight did not go his way, but emphasized the value of his career achievements.

“I feel very proud of what we achieved today. As a Mexican, I feel very proud of what I’ve accomplished and of how I’ve represented my country,” he added.

The night belonged to Terence Crawford, who not only secured his 42nd victory without a loss but also became the first boxer to be undisputed champion in three different weight divisions.

By defeating Álvarez, he captured all four super middleweight titles (168 pounds) that the Mexican had held since 2021.

During the fight, Canelo’s corner urged him to adjust his defense, but the changes were not enough. After twelve rounds, the judges unanimously ruled in favor of the American, who had moved up two divisions for the challenge.

Álvarez conceded his rival’s superiority: “We knew Crawford is a great boxer. I did what I had to do, I tried with all my strength, but he deserves all the credit. Sometimes you try, but your body doesn’t respond — you have to accept it.”

The Future of Canelo

With a record of 68 fights and three losses, Canelo did not reveal whether he would pursue an immediate rematch.

“The only thing I have in my head is enjoying my family and my newborn daughter,” he said.

His immediate focus seems to be away from the ring, though he left the door open for new opportunities: “Surely good things will come.”

This was reported by EFE.

Support for Álvarez

The defeat did not dampen the atmosphere in the stadium, where more than 70,000 fans — mostly Mexicans — cheered for the champion throughout the night.

“It was a great night for boxing,” summarized the Guadalajara fighter, who remained composed while recognizing Crawford’s historic feat.

With this result, the world boxing landscape shifts.

While Crawford consolidates his place in history, Álvarez’s future is marked by the question of whether he will return to the top or open a new chapter in his personal and professional life.
