Ocasio’s death surprised the public, which quickly revisited his career and impact.

Family Confirms the News

The singer’s sister, Iraida Ocasio, announced the death on the morning of December 24, reporting that it had occurred the night before.

“Your voice, your talent, and your essence will live on forever in our memories. Thank you for who you were and for what you left on this earth. Fly high, brother,” she shared on social media.

Although she did not disclose the cause, the newspaper El Nuevo Día reported that Tony died at age 58 “as a result of a heart attack.”

The outlet added that the former Los Chicos member was living in Orlando, Florida.

Uncertainty Around Funeral Arrangements

So far, no plans have been announced for the singer’s farewell.

The Career of Tony Ocasio

Tony Ocasio rose to fame alongside Chayanne, Rey Díaz, and Migue Santa in the original lineup. After the departure of the performer of “Fiesta en América,” Eddie joined the group, though the project gradually lost momentum.

According to Prensa Libre, the band ultimately disbanded in 1983 due to administrative issues. Ocasio then took a different path by joining the United States Army.

In the 1990s, the members revisited their legacy with a reunion and an album that included songs such as “Luna de Xelajú.”

Tony’s death closes a meaningful chapter for those who grew up with the group’s music.

His memory lives on among fans and friends who today mourn the loss, underscoring why Chayanne mourns Tony Ocasio as both a personal and cultural farewell.
