According to People en Español, a man from Schenectady admitted to causing the death of his 5-year-old daughter after keeping her locked away for months without food or water.

The accused was identified as Robert S. Buskey Jr., 35.

Buskey was a former amateur mixed martial arts wrestler.

Authorities confirmed that he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

He also accepted an additional charge for criminally supplying a controlled substance to a minor.

The case was brought by the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office as part of the ongoing child abuse murder case in New York.

Extreme conditions inside the home

Emergency services responded to Robert Buskey’s residence on April 14, 2024.

The emergency call reported an unconscious child inside the home.

Upon arrival, first responders encountered what prosecutors described as a “house of horrors.”

The girl’s body, identified as Charlotte, was locked inside a room.

The child was in an advanced state of malnutrition.

Authorities stated that she had been the victim of prolonged neglect.

According to the investigation, she had been confined for months.

The room had no bed.

Inside, there was only a small playpen.

Prosecutors said the girl could only fit inside in a fetal position.

Access to the room was secured with a padlock placed from the outside.

Charlotte had no access to food or water.

The autopsy confirmed that the cause of death was dehydration and starvation.

Robert Buskey exposed her to isolation and prolonged abuse

Authorities reported that Buskey’s two children were isolated from the outside world.

They had no contact with other relatives.

They also received no medical care.

They were not enrolled in any formal education system.

Prosecutors stated that Robert Buskey used narcotics inside the home.

During that time, he also spent long hours playing video games.

In the dining area of the residence, investigators found an improvised cage.

Inside, he kept his 3-year-old son locked up.

Investigators concluded that both children lived under extreme conditions.

The neglect extended over several months.

Confinement and the lack of basic care were part of a repeated pattern of behavior.

Authorities emphasized that this was not an isolated incident.

The children had no access to basic services or outside supervision.

Their isolation prevented others from discovering the situation in time.

Charges, guilt, and sentencing

Medical tests conducted after authorities intervened revealed another serious factor.

Both children had cocaine in their systems.

As a result, in addition to the murder charge, Robert Buskey faced drug-related offenses.

The defendant pleaded guilty to supplying narcotics to minors.

The plea agreement establishes the maximum sentence allowed.

Buskey will receive 25 years in prison for the second-degree murder charge.

An additional two years will be added for the controlled substance offense.

The total sentence will be 27 years in prison.

The Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office confirmed the terms of the agreement.

Authorities noted that the guilty plea avoids a trial.

The case has caused widespread shock due to the severity of the crimes.

Prosecutors stressed that the victim died after months of abandonment.

The investigation concluded that the death was entirely preventable.

The judicial process now awaits only formal sentencing.

The case stands as one of the most severe episodes of child abuse recorded in the region and remains a stark example of a child abuse murder case in New York.
