Mitos y Leyendas: The Children of the Sun
Children of the Sun tells the story of how he tells his children a task. They, without thinking, comply with their father's wishes.
- Genny de Bernardo shares with you the legend of the children of the sun.
- It’s a story that comes from the Incas.
- The sun entrusted his children with a mission to build temples.
The wise Pachacutec pronounced a prophecy that said that the Sun King and the Moon Queen would unite on a glorious day, and so it happened.
The Sun and the Moon were like two unfortunate lovers destined never to meet.
However, Pachacutec’s great prophecy assured that one day they would love each other and from their union a boy and a girl would be born in Lake Titicaca.
On the predicted day, the Earth darkened and the Moon joined the Sun. When people arrived at Lake Titicaca, they found a handsome and strong man alongside a beautiful maiden.
The mission of the children of the sun

The Sun God gave them the mission to travel the world, carrying with them a golden lance.
They had to strike the rocks they encountered and, where the lance sank with a single blow, build a city in honor of the Sun and appoint a king to rule over men.
The Children of the Sun fulfilled this mission. They taught people skills such as hunting, agriculture, the art of war, and prayers to the Sun God. Together, they built temples and palaces in his honor.
The inhabitants of those lands gratefully called the Sun’s Son «INCA,» which in their language means «prince,» and the Sun’s Daughter they called «MAMAUCHIC,» which means «mother.»
A rock breaks

The Children of the Sun, accompanied by the local people, searched for the place where the rock would yield to the first blow of the lance, thus indicating the place to found the city.
Finally, on the mountain of Huanacauri, the rock gave way, and there they gathered the people and shared the teachings of their father Sun about wealth, poverty, peace, war, justice, and injustice.
They founded a city with temples dedicated to the Sun, the giver of life, as well as squares, markets, orchards, and meadows where future generations could grow free.
Before leaving, the Children of the Sun asked the people to choose the most honorable and wise among them, whom they would crown as king to lead them on a new path.
First Inca

Thus, Manco Cápac was named the first prince of all, the first Inca. The prosperous empire of the Incas extended beyond the mountains and rivers of their place of origin.
They built temples, founded new cities, built roads, and increased their herds in an era when this was unimaginable for most civilizations on Earth. For centuries, they continued to worship the Sun King as the giver of life and keeper of their people.
However, all this occurred long before the arrival of invaders with iron armor and mounted on horseback, who devastated and destroyed everything in their path in those lands.
