Tuesday ended with one of the biggest surprises of the 2025 Club World Cup: Boca Juniors was eliminated after drawing 1-1 with Auckland City.
The Argentine team needed a win to stay in the tournament, but failed to overcome the New Zealand side and was eliminated in the group stage.
Club World Cup 2025: Benfica Shocks and Tops Its Group
In the other Group C match, Benfica pulled off an upset by defeating the powerful Bayern Munich 1-0.
With that result, the Portuguese team advanced as group leaders, pushing the Germans into second place. Both move forward, but their positions alter their matchups in the next round.
Flamengo and Chelsea Move On
In Group D, Chelsea secured qualification by thrashing Esperance 3-0, while Flamengo, already through to the next round, drew 1-1 with LAFC.
Thus, the Brazilian and English teams both advance to the Round of 16 and now know who their opponents will be.
