- Urgent Measures Needed Before Transition
- Warnings of Mass Deportation Risks
President Joe Biden received an urgent request from Hispanic senators on Wednesday to safeguard immigrants before Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Senators Catherine Cortez Masto, Alex Padilla, and Ben Ray Luján urged the president to use his authority to implement measures protecting the most vulnerable migrants.
Cortez Masto emphasized that Biden has the opportunity to solidify his legacy as a leader who defends families and supports those who contribute to making the U.S. a unique country.
Following the November 5 election results, which saw Democrats lose control of both the White House and Senate, the need to act before the power transition in January has become critical.

The senators specifically called for protections for recipients of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and «Dreamers,» immigrants brought to the U.S. as children without legal status.
“The president has the legal authority to act,” stated Cortez Masto, warning of potentially chaotic immigration policies under the incoming Republican administration.
Donald Trump has pledged strict measures on immigration, including mass deportations, though his stance on «Dreamers» remains less definitive.
«We will work with the current and future administrations to protect migrants and their families,» emphasized Ben Ray Luján, highlighting the widespread societal impact of mass deportations.
Luján cautioned that these actions would harm millions of families and negatively affect broader U.S. society.
The senators stressed the urgency of Biden taking swift action, although they acknowledged that the White House is still reviewing proposals with no set timeline for implementation.
