Domenica Rivera Mendieta, a 25-year-old Ecuadorian national, was arrested last Thursday in Queens, New York, after being accused of stealing over $1,500 worth of merchandise from a Victoria’s Secret store in Long Island.

According to authorities, Rivera Mendieta and an accomplice—whose identity has not been disclosed—took items valued at $1,551 from the Victoria’s Secret location in Oceanside on January 4.

The women allegedly hid the merchandise in a shopping bag and left the store without paying, according to detectives.

Nearly three months later, both women were arrested and charged with grand larceny. One of them, who had a baby with her, also faces charges for endangering the welfare of a minor.

Both were summoned to appear in court on April 11. However, a subsequent investigation revealed that Rivera Mendieta had an outstanding arrest warrant from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Nassau County Police confirmed that Rivera Mendieta is originally from Ecuador but have not disclosed her current detention location.

This arrest adds to a series of recent incidents, including that of Jorge J. Ramos, a 55-year-old man who was detained last month on sex trafficking charges in Long Island, also by ICE.

Authorities emphasize that all charges are merely accusations, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
