According to reports from the EFE agency, the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, revealed that he handed over a drug kingpins list to U.S. President Donald Trump, detailing the primary drug lords living outside of Colombian territory.

This information was shared during a press conference in Washington, following a bilateral meeting between the two leaders at the White House.

Petro asserted that the heads of the major drug trafficking structures do not currently reside in Colombia.

As he explained, these individuals live in cities such as Dubai, Madrid, and Miami.

The Colombian leader maintained that the pursuit of drug trafficking must focus on these actors and not be limited to Colombian territory.

List of kingpins and drug trafficking focus

During his remarks to the press, Petro stated that «the front line of drug trafficking lives in Dubai, in Madrid, in Miami.»

He added that he provided this information directly to President Trump.

«I passed a drug kingpins list to President Trump,» he declared.

Petro emphasized that the major drug lords are not in Colombia and must be pursued outside the country.

The Colombian president insisted that the fight against drug trafficking cannot focus solely on local producers.

In his view, the major capital and financial structures of drug trafficking operate from abroad.

He pointed out that pursuing only the lowest links does not resolve the underlying problem.

Drug trafficking was one of the central themes of the meeting between the two leaders.

Washington maintains that cocaine production has increased during the Petro administration.

The Colombian president, for his part, defended his crop substitution policy, stating it has yielded positive results.

Petro denies request regarding OFAC sanctions

In the same press conference, Petro denied having asked Trump to remove him from the sanctions list of the Office of Foreign Assets Control, known as the «Clinton List.»

«I didn’t ask that,» the leader stated.

Petro explained that personal matters were not addressed during the meeting.

He claimed that Trump did not speak of his own businesses, nor did he speak of his.

He recalled that for a significant part of his youth, he did not require banks or checkbooks.

The Colombian president noted that he expressed to Trump that one cannot act «under blackmail.»

Regarding his inclusion on the Clinton List, Petro reiterated that the accusations against him are groundless.

He indicated that if legal evidence existed, he would not be in Washington giving statements.

Petro considered that his sanction was related to statements he made in September during a rally in New York.

At that event, he urged U.S. soldiers to disobey orders related to the Gaza Strip.

The president also questioned the effectiveness of OFAC as a tool against drug trafficking.

He maintained that it is a symbolic mechanism that does not truly pursue the major capital of the drug lords.

Bilateral meeting and invitation to Cartagena

Trump and Petro held a two-hour meeting at the White House.

It was the first encounter between the two after a year of public disagreements and exchanges of insults.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both the American and Colombian presidents expressed satisfaction with the results of the dialogue.

In addition to drug trafficking, topics related to anti-drug policy and bilateral cooperation were addressed.

In subsequent statements, Petro confirmed that he invited Trump to visit Cartagena.

He indicated that business topics were not discussed during the conversation.

He reiterated that he does not have businesses of his own and that the exchange remained on an institutional level.

Petro described Cartagena as a beautiful place and highlighted the invitation as a diplomatic gesture.

Petro’s visit to Washington took place in a context of tensions over U.S. anti-drug and migration policies.

The meeting marked an attempt to rebuild the bilateral relationship.

The Colombian government insisted that the fight against drug trafficking must focus on major international actors.

The delivery of the drug kingpins list sought to reinforce that message to the U.S. administration.
