A powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Tibet and parts of Nepal, leaving 95 dead and hundreds injured.

The epicenter of the quake was located in Tingri County, near Mount Everest, in a region with high seismic activity.

Over 1,000 homes were destroyed, and the streets of the affected villages were filled with debris and crushed vehicles.

At least 130 people were injured, and aftershocks continued to shake the area for several hours.

The earthquake was also felt in Nepal, where it woke residents in Kathmandu, although no significant damage was reported.

The region near Everest, uninhabited in winter, avoided a larger tragedy due to the absence of tourists and residents.

Over 50 aftershocks were recorded following the quake, making rescue efforts more difficult and increasing fear among the inhabitants.

Chinese President Xi Jinping ordered intensified rescue efforts and prioritized the safety of individuals.

Close to 3,000 rescuers were deployed to the region, while the government allocated 100 million yuan for aid.

The affected area, 4,200 meters above sea level, faces logistical challenges due to its altitude and extreme winter weather.

On the Chinese side, the Everest tourist park was closed, and the residents of nearby villages were evacuated.

Tingri County, in Tibet, is located at the intersection of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, an area prone to large earthquakes.

Over the last 100 years, this region has experienced at least 10 earthquakes of magnitude 6 or higher.

International organizations have reported that the Tibet region faces political and social tensions under Chinese governance.

The impact of this earthquake once again highlights the vulnerability of this mountainous region, which is frequently affected by natural disasters.
