Election day was marked by intermittent rain that affected mobility, though it did not prevent voters from heading out to choose the city’s leadership for the coming years.
Turnout was moderate but sufficient to reflect a stable civic commitment despite weather conditions that complicated travel for some throughout the day.
Eileen Higgins voted early at the historic Alfred I. DuPont Building, reaffirming her message of transparency and her focus on the needs of Miami’s working-class population.
Early voting, combined with mail-in ballots and in-person participation, allowed for a smoother tally and a clear trend in favor of the Democratic candidate from the early stages.
Eileen Higgins’ campaign promises

Higgins centered her campaign on fighting corruption and expanding affordable housing—two priority issues for residents of a city facing continuously rising living costs.
Her agenda also included improvements to public transportation, strengthening infrastructure, and promoting environmental policies aimed at addressing urban challenges in many areas of Miami.
The candidate received support from national political figures such as Pete Buttigieg and David Jolly, who highlighted her commitment to the immigrant community and her inclusive approach.
Higgins stated that her victory represents a “different direction” for Miami, focused on small businesses, efficient public services, and leadership that stays close to the city’s working families.
Urgent challenges for the new local administration

Among the main concerns raised during the campaign was the high cost of housing, a problem affecting various neighborhoods and continuing to intensify.
Also highlighted was the urgent need for infrastructure capable of addressing flooding—a growing challenge in Miami due to rising sea levels and increasingly frequent climate events.
Managing the municipal budget will be key to implementing social programs and urban projects—areas Higgins will need to address with strategic planning as she begins her administration.
The electoral process concluded without major incidents, closing an unusual December voting cycle in which residents once again headed to the polls to choose the city’s top local authority.
