Billionaire Elon Musk reported on Monday that his social media platform, X, had been subjected to a «massive cyberattack», which he attributed to a «coordinated group and/or a country» attempting to silence the platform and himself.

Musk wrote on X:

«There was (and still is) a massive cyberattack against X. We face attacks every day, but this one was launched with extensive resources.»

«A large, coordinated group and/or a nation-state is involved. We are investigating…»

The attack has caused platform-wide issues throughout the day, affecting thousands of users in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and other countries, according to reports compiled by DownDetector.

The most significant outage occurred around 10:00 AM ET (14:00 GMT), with over 40,000 reports of failures.

X users experienced slow loading times during the cyberattack.

As well as error messages with code 520 (linked to web server issues and the cybersecurity firm Cloudflare).

Musk reacted to a post mentioning recent protests against the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under Donald Trump, along with vandalism targeting Tesla stores.

Some users speculated that the X outage could be an act of sabotage.

When a user suggested that the attack aimed to silence both Elon Musk and X, he responded with a brief «yes.»
