«There are no mandatory evacuations in effect,» stated Lewis Scott, Deputy Assistant Chief of the Westhampton Beach Fire Department.

«However, we urge residents and nearby communities to stay alert and be prepared to evacuate if necessary,» he added.

Helicopters have dropped nearly 700 gallons of water to slow the fire’s spread since it began on Saturday afternoon in Center Moriches.

One firefighter suffered facial burns and was transported to a specialized medical center for treatment. Fortunately, his condition is stable.

Authorities in New York have reopened major roads and highways despite the fires.

Including Sunrise Highway and Speonk Riverhead Road, to facilitate emergency response efforts and potential evacuations.

The state of emergency, declared by Governor Hochul, aims to protect public safety and coordinate multi-agency efforts.

This includes the New York National Guard.

As well as state and local emergency management teams and fire control agencies.

Additionally, 100,000 N95 masks have been distributed to the affected areas to protect residents from hazardous smoke inhalation.

Meteorologists warn that challenging conditions will persist, with wind gusts of up to 40 mph expected throughout the day.

Humidity levels are expected to rise slightly, and wind speeds may decrease in the coming days.

Potentially providing temporary relief in the battle against the New York wildfires.

State and local authorities continue to closely monitor the situation, according to CBS News.
