U.S. authorities have announced that at least 20 people, including four children, have died due to powerful Memorial Day weekend storms.

According to The Associated Press and EFE, the severe weather last weekend brought a trail of devastation with tornadoes and strong storms.

In addition to the tragic deaths, residents of states such as Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kentucky, Texas, Ohio and Missouri were left without power.

In Texas, Governor Greg Abbott declared a disaster in more than a third of the state due to the effects of the storms.

At least 100 people were injured in Texas in the severe weather and the most unfortunate thing is that seven lost their lives, including four children.

Visibly shaken, the governor said: “We are experiencing a heartbreaking loss of life, including the anguish of a family who lost their 2- and 5-year-old children.”

The search for people continues under the rubble of houses and buildings due to the damage caused by the severe weather.

Storms hit Arkansas and Oklahoma

As far as Arkansas is concerned, eight people were reported dead, including a woman who was found outside a home in a Boone County community.

Meanwhile, in Oklahoma there were two deaths and another fatality in Kentucky.

Given this weekend’s tragedy, residents of North Carolina and Virginia on alert for more storms Monday.

The National Weather Service issued a storm warning for the next few hours for Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin and Missouri.

Kentucky declares a state of emergency

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, declared a state of emergency on Monday for «multiple reports of wind and tornadoes causing destruction.»

The severe weather destroyed at least 200 homes in Texas.

Greg Abbott stated that «The hopes and dreams of Texas families and small businesses have literally been crushed by storm after storm.»

The storm season has been disastrous for residents of the United States and the forecasts are not encouraging, as they will continue.
