Actor Tony Dow dies a day after his wife mistakenly announced his death (PHOTOS)

Tony Dow, star of the classic fifties TV series Leave it to Beaver, died on Wednesday at the age of 77 at his residence in California, according to his official Facebook page. This comes after his wife, Lauren, made a tremendous error.

“This morning, Tony’s wife Lauren, who was very distraught, had notified us that Tony had passed away and asked us to notify all of his fans. As we are sure one can understand, this has been a very difficult time for her,” read a statement denying his death shortly after the first announcement.

After saying Dow was still alive, the worst was announced again from his official Facebook page: «Dear family, friends and fans, we have received confirmation from Christopher, Tony’s son, that Tony passed away this morning, with his loving family by his side to accompany him.»

Tony Dow’s son broke his silence

“Although this is a very sad day, I have the comfort and peace that he is in a better place… He was the best father one could have. He was my coach, my mentor, my voice of reason, my best friend, my best man at the wedding and my hero,» his son Christopher Dow said in a statement, according to EFE.

“My wife said something powerful and it shows the kind of man he was. She said: “Tony was a very kind man. He had a big heart and I never heard Tony say anything bad or negative about anyone. We respectfully ask that everyone give the family privacy in their time of mourning,” the announcement concludes.
