An Aeroméxico aircraft operating the route between Mexico City and Reynosa, near the U.S. border, was forced to make an emergency landing on Tuesday after smoke was detected in the cabin.

The aircraft, an Embraer 190 carrying more than 80 passengers, was diverted to Tampico International Airport,

Where it landed without incident.

“Smoke was detected in the cabin, but no fire was found,” the airline stated in an official press release.

So far, the cause of the incident has not been confirmed.

Aeroméxico assured that all passengers and crew members are safe

And reported that no one required medical attention.

Flight AM2496 had departed from Mexico City International Airport at 5:51 a.m. (11:51 GMT).

Reactions and Safety Measures

The emergency landing triggered safety protocols at Tampico International Airport, where emergency services and ground support personnel were deployed.

Some passengers described moments of anxiety upon noticing the smoke but praised the crew for maintaining calm.

The airline stated it is working to rebook affected travelers on alternate flights to their final destination.

Ongoing Technical Review and Investigation

The airline said the aircraft is undergoing technical inspection to determine the source of the smoke and to ensure all safety standards are met before it returns to service.

The Aeromexico incident occurred en route to Reynosa, Tamaulipas, a key destination due to its location on the U.S. border.

Despite the scare, safety protocols functioned effectively, enabling a secure landing with no major consequences.
