After being expelled from a press conference held by Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Senator Alex Padilla has spoken out against U.S. immigration policies.
The intensified raids targeting undocumented immigrants in California were the central focus of his speech.
“They are trying to earn a living to help their families,” said Padilla, highlighting the sacrifice of his father, a Mexican immigrant who worked hard to get ahead.
Through a video posted on social media, Padilla thanked supporters for their messages after the incident at the press conference, where he had tried to interrupt Noem to ask a question.

However, he did not shy away from reflecting on the incident:
“If they can do that to me, a U.S. Senator, what are they doing to so many immigrants when the cameras aren’t rolling?” he asked.
The California senator also criticized the mass raids that have taken place across the state.
He recalled the farmworkers in Oxnard and day laborers who try to earn a living to support their families.
Call to Speak Out

Protests broke out in the streets of California in response to these actions.
Senator Alex Padilla emphasized the example set by his own father, an immigrant who worked in a restaurant for 40 years to provide a better future for his family. “That’s how he put food on the table,” he said proudly.
The senator reiterated that immigrants are essential to the U.S. economy and that, instead of valuing them, the Department of Homeland Security is “traumatizing and terrorizing” migrants with its tactics.
Through his message, Padilla urged citizens to raise their voices against the Trump administration’s immigration policies.
“Trump wants us to stay silent, to look the other way — and we’re not going to allow that,” he concluded.
