However, the actor emphasized the need for the country to “move forward” and stated that Harris and Walz are the leaders to accomplish that.
“We need to close the door on this chapter of American history,” he declared, criticizing former President Donald Trump’s inability to do so.
The 77-year-old actor went further, expressing his frustration with current politics, both Democratic and Republican.
“My Republicans have forgotten the beauty of the free market, increased deficits, and rejected election results. Democrats aren’t any better with managing deficits, and I’m concerned that their local policies are hurting our cities with rising crime.”

Schwarzenegger also addressed controversial remarks made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe during a Trump rally, where he referred to Puerto Rico as “a garbage island.”
“To call America a dumping ground for the world is so unpatriotic it enrages me,” expressed the former governor, reaffirming his identity as an American first, before being a Republican.
“I’ll always be an American before I’m a Republican,” he emphasized, signaling a clear distance from the current direction of the Republican Party, which many perceive as increasingly divisive.
Throughout his announcement, Schwarzenegger voiced his disillusionment with both parties, reflecting a growing sentiment among voters tired of political polarization.
His endorsement of Harris and Walz draws attention
Born in Austria, Schwarzenegger became a U.S. citizen in 1983 and has previously expressed interest in running for president, though the U.S. Constitution prevents naturalized citizens from running for the office.
Schwarzenegger’s decision to back Harris and Walz can be seen as a call for unity amid rising political division.
His critique of both Republicans and Democrats resonates with many citizens who feel their concerns are being ignored.
As the 2024 election approaches, this endorsement could influence an electorate seeking alternatives to political division and leadership focused on progress and inclusion.
