This was revealed by Azerbaijan Airlines in their first official report on the incident.

The flight, operated by an Embraer 190, was traveling between Baku, Azerbaijan, and Grozny, Chechnya, when it crashed near the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan.

Initial reports suggest that the plane was struck by a Russian Pantsir-S air defense system, causing its fall.

Four sources consulted by Reuters confirmed that the plane was shot down by Russian air defenses while flying over the region.

An American official described the incident as a display of «Russian recklessness.»

Subsequent analysis indicated that the Russian missile exploded near the plane, scattering shrapnel that impacted both passengers and the cabin crew.

Additionally, it was reported that Pantsir air defense systems had been installed near Grozny Airport just two weeks before the incident. This was reported by The Sun.

Speculation about Russian responsibility grew when, just one minute after the impact, the airspace was abruptly closed by orders from the Kremlin.

However, Russian and Kazakh authorities have attempted to divert attention, attributing the crash to a supposed bird collision.

Erratic Flight Pattern

Data obtained from FlightRadar24 about the Azerbaijan flight shows that the plane flew in an erratic pattern in the final minutes before the acident.

The pilots attempted to control the aircraft as they descended towards Aktau Airport but ultimately lost control.

Moments before the impact, one of the pilots shouted: «I can’t execute, control is lost!»

Additionally, it is believed that an oxygen cylinder exploded inside the passenger cabin during the final moments of the flight, though this was not the main cause of the crash.

Videos captured by surviving passengers show heartbreaking scenes of panic and despair before the plane crashed in Azerbaijan.

Some made final calls and left messages to their loved ones as the aircraft plummeted.

Investigations continue, led by Azerbaijan’s Deputy Attorney General, who confirmed that the black boxes have been recovered and are being analyzed to fully clarify what happened.
