Lorie Smith, an evangelical Christian, filed a lawsuit against the state of Colorado in 2016.

She did it in an attempt to secure an exemption from the state’s civil rights law to provide services only to heterosexual couples.

Smith’s company, 303 Creative, was never actually open for business, nor was she ever asked to design a website for a same-sex couple.

The Supreme Court has been widely criticized for even hearing the case.
