Biden reiterated to Sheinbaum the commitment to promote the interests of both nations together, as reported by Efe.

This comes hours after the preliminary results were known, which give the candidate of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s ruling party a clear victory.

The US president congratulated Sheinbaum on her «historic» election as the first woman president of Mexico.
She is the representative of the ruling National Regeneration Movement (Morena), the Labor Party (PT), and the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico (PVEM).
Sheinbaum obtained between 58.3% and 60.7% of the votes in Sunday’s elections, according to the quick count by the National Electoral Institute (INE).
Behind her, with a range of between 26.6% and 28.6% of the support, was her main rival, the opposition candidate Xóchitl Gálvez.
While the candidate of the opposition Citizen Movement (MC), Jorge Álvarez Máynez, would receive between 9.9% and 10.8% of the votes.
«I look forward to working closely with President-elect Sheinbaum in a spirit of partnership and friendship that reflects the enduring ties between our two countries,» Biden said.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken also joined in the congratulations, sending another statement.
Blinken reiterated the commitment to «work together with Mexico as neighbors, friends, and partners,» to promote mutual economic and security interests.
«We deeply value our special relationship with Mexico, which is based on shared democratic values, deep economic ties, and strong cultural and family connections,» he said.
Sheinbaum, who will take office on October 1, was the favorite, and after the predictions were fulfilled, continuity is expected in Mexico’s relationship with the US.
Both countries share the world’s longest and busiest border, as well as two deeply intertwined economies.
However, a month after taking office, the US will hold its presidential elections, in which Biden is seeking reelection and will compete against former President Donald Trump.
The Republican is currently polled as the favorite, and his victory could mean an abrupt shift in relations between the two countries.
Presumably, plans would be revived, such as building a wall between the two borders and expelling all Mexican citizens without legal status to reside in the US.
