The U.S. House of Representatives approved a bill strengthening sanctions against Nicolás Maduro.
The Bolívar Act prohibits the U.S. government from contracting individuals with commercial ties to the «illegitimate Maduro regime.»
The bill, supported by both Republicans and Democrats, now awaits approval in the Senate.
Additionally, it extends the prohibition to any successor government to Maduro not recognized by the United States.
United States Recognizes González Urrutia and Strengthens Sanctions Against Nicolás Maduro

Washington does not recognize Nicolás Maduro but acknowledges opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia as the winner of Venezuela’s last presidential election.
Republican Mike Waltz, co-author of the bill, emphasized the importance of maintaining and expanding sanctions against Maduro.
«We must minimize Maduro’s resources to abuse the freedoms of the Venezuelan people,» Waltz declared.
Democratic co-author Debbie Wasserman Schultz affirmed that the law sends a clear message against anti-democratic repression.
We will not tolerate repression nor subsidize Maduro’s regime,» stated Wasserman Schultz.
Waltz criticized Nicolás Maduro’s proclamation as the winner of the elections, a result challenged by the opposition.

According to the opposition, Edmundo González Urrutia was the true winner of the July 28 election.
The congressman urged the Senate to approve the bill and send it to the president for signature.
The bill also has the support of other legislators, including María Elvira Salazar and Marco Rubio.
Rubio, the future Secretary of State in a potential Donald Trump administration, has backed similar legislation.
The Bolívar Act aims to reaffirm U.S. solidarity with the Venezuelan people and their democratic activists.
