What was meant to be a historic day of celebration for Liverpool fans turned into chaos and concern in the heart of the city.
A man was arrested Monday afternoon after his vehicle struck several pedestrians amid the festivities for the club’s 20th league title.
The incident occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. local time (5:00 p.m. GMT) on Water Street, one of Liverpool’s main roads, where thousands had gathered to accompany the team parade.
According to Merseyside Police, the incident was classified as a “traffic accident” involving “multiple pedestrians,” as announced on social media platform X.

“The vehicle stopped at the scene and a man was detained,” police said in an official statement.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the suspect’s identity or the exact number of injured. However, eyewitnesses reported seeing several people receiving medical assistance.

Images shared by British media show a large emergency response in the area, according to EFE.
Police cordoned off several nearby streets as ambulances and fire trucks remained on-site.

The North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) said its personnel were on-site “assessing the situation and working with other emergency responders.”
“Our priority is to ensure people receive the medical care they need as quickly as possible,” NWAS said in a statement.
According to The Guardian, Liverpool was also observing the UK’s Spring Bank Holiday, which coincided with the team’s highly anticipated victory parade.
Players and coaching staff toured the main streets aboard an open-top bus while fans waved flags and sang victory chants.
