Clarisa Figueroa is sentenced

A historic sentence has been handed down in Chicago, Illinois. Clarisa Figueroa, 51, has been sentenced to spend 50 years behind bars.
This is due to the role she played in the brutal murder of Marlen Ochoa-López, a pregnant 19-year-old.
Figueroa admitted her guilt in a crime that shocked the city and the country for its brutality.
The murder occurred almost five years ago, on April 23, 2019, when Figueroa, along with her daughter Desiree, strangled young Marlen, who was nine months pregnant.
Details of the brutal crime

After strangling Marlen using a cable, Clarisa Figueroa and her daughter Desiree cut open the victim’s abdomen and removed her baby from the womb.
The brutality of the act and Figueroa’s ruthless manipulation have left the community shocked and horrified.
The baby, Yovanny Jadiel López, was torn from his mother’s womb and survived for seven weeks on a ventilator before dying on June 14.
The medical examiner determined that his death was a homicide due to the brain damage caused by the attack, according to EFE.
They lured Marlen Ochoa-Lopez with lies

In pronouncing the sentence, Judge Peggy Chiampas urged Clarisa Figueroa to reflect on the harm caused to the victim’s family.
She added that she hoped this sentence serves as a daily reminder of the devastating consequences of her actions.
The mother and daughter lured Marlen to a house with the promise of giving her clothes and a baby stroller, among other items.
According to EFE, once inside, they brutally attacked her.
Others involved in the crime

EFE reported that Figueroa’s boyfriend, Piotr Bobak, was also implicated in the crime.
Prosecutors accused him of cleaning up the crime scene. He pleaded guilty last year to a charge of obstruction of justice and was sentenced to four years in prison.
Figueroa’s daughter, Desiree, pleaded guilty last January and agreed to testify against her mother in exchange for a 30-year prison sentence.
Her testimony was crucial to Figueroa’s conviction, shedding light on the brutality of the crime and the manipulation of both mother and daughter.
The crime leaves an indelible mark on Chicago

The tragedy of Marlen Ochoa-Lopez has left an indelible mark.
It’s a reminder of the need to protect the most vulnerable among us.
The 50-year sentence handed down to Clarisa Figueroa is a step towards that justice.
It is also a sad reminder of the brutality that can arise when humanity strays from its path.
