The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, stated that she has not yet received an invitation to attend Donald Trump’s inauguration as president of the United States on January 20, 2025.
During her morning press conference, Sheinbaum explained that she will decide whether to attend once she formally receives the invitation.
When asked about the potential mass deportations announced by Trump, Sheinbaum noted that the Mexican government is already preparing for this scenario. The efforts include strengthening consulates and expediting legal processes for Mexican nationals.
Additionally, the president mentioned that a joint strategy is being developed with governors of the border states.

In response to Trump’s remarks about building a wall on the border, Sheinbaum reiterated her position: «We need to build bridges, not walls.»
She emphasized that the solution to migration lies in addressing its root causes, including investing in and supporting the countries of origin.
On the occasion of International Migrants Day, Sheinbaum announced that her administration will present a special program for Mexican migrants, reaffirming its commitment to defending their rights.
This statement came amidst tense relations with the incoming U.S. administration, particularly regarding migration policies.
