The Trump administration has begun quietly deporting hundreds of Cubans and other immigrants with criminal records to Mexico and other third countries, even though many are not accepted by their home nations.
The new protocol leaves these individuals in a legal and humanitarian limbo — without identification, family support, or access to aid.
Cubans Deported From US Prisons to Southern Mexico
Migrants were reportedly transported by bus from detention centers to the southern US border and handed over to Mexican authorities.
Some were later released near the Guatemala border, without clear instructions about their destination or legal status.

Cuba Refuses, the US Expels
While Cuba accepts certain deportations, it refuses to receive individuals convicted of serious crimes, leaving many Cubans in the United States in legal limbo for years.
Now, instead of being held or repatriated, they are left in Mexico — unprotected, isolated, and destitute.
Extreme Cases and Real Dangers
The deported individuals include convicted offenders with charges such as child abuse, assault with weapons, domestic violence, and armed robbery.
According to testimonies collected by the Miami Herald, some face real dangers of kidnapping or murder by Mexican criminal groups once released.

“They Lied to Us”
One migrant, Manuel Lázaro Suárez Pérez, who arrived from Cuba in 1980, said he was deceived about his final destination.
“They told us we were going to a facility in San Diego, but they sent us to Mexico,” he said. “They lied to us.”
Mexico Unprepared to Receive Deported Cubans
At the Oasis de Paz shelter in Villahermosa, nearly 350 Cubans deported from the US have arrived this year alone.
Most are elderly adults with medical conditions, no identification, and no financial support.
Their families in the United States are unable to assist them across the border.

No Accountability or Clear Policy
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has not explained under what policy these deportations are taking place.
The Mexican government has also remained silent.
Immigration attorneys denounce a total lack of transparency and warn of serious human rights violations.
Cubans Deportation to South Sudan and Eswatini
Some migrants have reportedly been sent to conflict zones, including South Sudan, or even El Salvador’s CECOT maximum-security prison.
According to Deputy Secretary Tricia McLaughlin,
“These monsters are out of our country.”
A Drastic Shift in US Immigration Policy
Historically, the U.S. has only deported migrants to third countries when their nation of origin no longer existed or when the person held dual nationality.
This new policy represents a radical expansion of deportations, carried out without precedent or clear legal safeguards.
Immigration advocates warn that the move could set a dangerous standard, effectively abandoning deportees in foreign countries with no legal recourse.
