Venezuelan actor Daniel Elbittar has publicly announced that the Venezuelan government has officially revoked his citizenship and passport in retaliation for his outspoken criticism of the regime.

In a statement released on Thursday, Elbittar explained that the decision is an attempt to silence him for his critical stance, calling it an effort to stifle “one of the most visible and courageous voices of the Venezuelan artistic exile.”

Despite the measure, the 46-year-old actor remained defiant, stating:

“Today they strip me of my nationality, my legal identity as a Venezuelan, but they will never take away my voice or my love for my homeland. You don’t need a passport to denounce injustice—you need dignity. And thanks to my parents and my conscience, I have plenty of that.”

In his message, the actor reaffirmed his determination to continue using his platform to expose the injustices taking place in Venezuela.

He emphasized his commitment to being a voice for those who cannot speak out: “I will keep defending freedom of expression, especially for those who don’t have the chance to be heard.”

Daniel Elbittar is known not only for his work in telenovelas but also for his public activism against the Venezuelan government.

Over the years, he has used interviews, social media, and international platforms to shed light on the humanitarian crisis and political persecution in his homeland. The revocation of his citizenship is seen as another step in the regime’s efforts to punish dissent and silence critics in exile.

A Rising Career Despite Setback

Ironically, the news comes at a high point in Daniel Elbittar’s career. He is set to premiere his new telenovela “Amanecer” in Mexico and the United States, in which he portrays villain Sebastián Peñalosa.

In a recent interview with People en Español, Elbittar described the role as “the darkest character” of his career—a charismatic doctor leading a secret double life as a serial killer.

He also highlighted the social significance of the production, which aims to raise awareness about femicide in Mexico—a subject the show’s producer, Juan Osorio, intends to tackle with raw realism.

This was reported by People en Español.

Vows to Keep His Voice Alive

“It’s a very important message that our producer wants to share with the world,” said Elbittar, who, despite adversity, remains steadfast in his mission to create, speak out, and portray complex stories.

While the Venezuelan government closes official doors, Daniel Elbittar promises to keep his voice alive.

He emerges as a symbol of the exile community determined not to forget its origins or its commitment to freedom.
