The devastating accident occurred around noon in Rushville, a small community located about 60 miles west of Springfield, Illinois.

According to local authorities, a school bus from to the Schuyler-Industry district, was traveling eastbound on Illinois Route 24.

The bus veered into the semi’s path

For unknown reasons, the school bus crossed the dividing line into the westbound lanes.

The bus then ran head-on into a semi truck.

Both vehicles caught fire after the crash, further complicating the situation, according to The Associated Press.

At a press conference, Illinois State Police Troop 6 Captain Jody Huffman talked about the terrible incident.

The school bus accident killed three children

Additionally, Jody Huffman confirmed that the bus was carrying three children and the driver.

Tragically, both the school bus driver and the semi-truck driver were also killed in the crash.

«There’s not really words at this time that can be said,» Schuyler County Sheriff Bill Redshaw told reporters.

«When you have a loss of life like this, it’s devastating,» the sheriff added.

The victims’ identities have not been revealed

The identities of the victims have not yet been revealed, and authorities have announced that the cause of the accident is under thorough investigation.

Schuyler County Coroner Terry Millslagle reported that the victims’ bodies are being transported to Springfield for autopsies.
