A man in a van drove into the crowd on a street in the French Quarter in New Orleans during the New Year’s celebration.

Initially, there was talk of 10 dead and at least 35 injured, in what the FBI would define as a terrorist attack.

The man responsible was an American who had inside the van an Islamic State (ISIS) flag and weapons and explosive devices.

Now, the death toll is reported to have risen from 10 to 15, according to reports from the New Orleans Coroner’s Office.

The perpetrator of the attack was 42 years old Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar.

The man got out of his truck after carrying out the attack and was shot dead by the police.

He used a rented white Ford F-150 truck for the mass attack on Bourbon Street.

The attacker may have had accomplices

The FBI is handling this tragedy as a terrorist attack, and is still investigating the person responsible.

However, it was also reported that other homemade explosive devices were found in the central neighborhood where the attack occurred.

Given this situation, the possibility that Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar had other accomplices is not ruled out.

So far, security in New Orleans is at its maximum state due to fear of more attacks, reported Infobae.
