Heavy rains in Roswell, New Mexico, have caused severe flooding that has claimed the lives of at least two people and forced the rescue of hundreds of residents.
According to the New Mexico National Guard, 290 people have been rescued, with 38 of them transported to local hospitals.
Miguel Aguilar, the adjutant general of the National Guard, noted that authorities were already prepared.
This readiness was partly due to their experience with previous floods in the region, such as those in Ruidoso.
