Debanhi Susana Escobar Bazaldúa was born on September 4, 2003, in Monterrey, as the adopted daughter of Mario Escobar and Dolores Bazaldúa.
The law student went missing on April 9, 2022, after leaving her home to attend a party at a villa in the municipality of Escobedo.
Twelve days later, her body was discovered in an abandoned cistern at the Nueva Castilla Motel, close to where she was last seen alive.
Media reports relayed statements from the prosecution indicating that Debanhi’s death was ruled an accident, presumably resulting from a fall into the cistern.
Debanhi Escobar’s grave

A few days ago, Mario Escobar, the father of the young woman, filed a complaint with the state Attorney General’s Office.
This action followed the discovery of damage at his daughter’s final resting place, and an investigation is currently underway.
The incident took place on Thursday, December 21, and it was relatives, who visit the grave almost daily, who first noticed the vandalism.
Mario Escobar stated that beyond the physical damage, they are deeply pained by the disrespect shown to Debanhi’s memory and the loss of objects that held sentimental value.
What did they take from the grave?

Items like medals, stuffed monkeys, and various other mementos left at the site in memory of their daughter, some of which were gifts from others, were among the objects vandalized.
Additionally, the theft of a commemorative plaque was reported, along with damage to the stairs and a cross at the site.
However, it wasn’t only Debanhi’s tomb that was affected; similar damage was reported at 10 other graves in the same cemetery.
It appears that this act may have been committed by individuals involved in grave robbing. However, as mentioned earlier, there are currently no suspects.
What has happened to the case?

Debanhi Escobar was laid to rest on April 24, 2022, after being missing for 12 days.
Her last known sighting was on April 9 on the Laredo highway, specifically in the Nueva Castilla neighborhood in the metropolitan municipality of Escobedo.
The young woman’s body was discovered in a cistern at the Nueva Castilla Motel, a site that authorities had previously searched at least four times.
Currently, Debanhi’s father, Mario Escobar, is aspiring to become a candidate for federal office with the Citizen Movement party.
