Rapper and actress Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, made some strong statements on Instagram live.

She expressed her annoyance with her fans for mistaking her ethnicity.

She is bothered by being called Mexican and has highlighted the importance of recognizing cultural differences among Hispanics.

Cardi B highlighted to the viewers of her broadcast that she doesn’t appreciate being identified withe a culture that isn’t hers.

During the live broadcast, Cardi B made it clear that she has not gotten back together with Offset and used the space to address the issue of misidentification.

She focused especially on people who mistake her for being Mexican.

«[W]hy is it I feel offended when people call me Mexican? Because I’m not Mexican! I’m not Mexican. My nationalities don’t have the same culture.»

The famous rapper was born in the United States, and she is of Dominican and Trinidadian descent.

The ‘WAP’ rapper pointed out that it is essential to have greater knowledge and respect for the different Hispanic cultures.

She highlighted the differences between the Dominican Republic and Mexico.

«Being Dominican is not the same as being Mexican,» said Cardi B, emphasizing that, although they speak the same language, each country has its own dialect, customs and food.

The winner of the Dominican Pride award at the Soberano Awards in 2017 gave more examples to illustrate her point, such as referring to a Ghanaian as a Nigerian or confusing a Jamaican with a Haitian.

«Y’all do that sh*t to irritate me. And not only do you y’all call me a Mexican, y’all call me a dirty Mexican,» she said.

«So, of course, I’m gonna defend myself every single time you guys do it. You’re not gonna keep erasing my nationalities,» she continued.
