Juan Luis Lagunas Rosales was killed on December 18, 2017, after being shot point blank 15 times. He was only 17 years old.
The young man is remembered for sharing YouTube videos where he boasted about his life of excess.
A few days after his death, broadcaster and producer Pepe Garza shared what would be the El Pirata’s last interview.

Before presenting El Pirata’s last interview, Pepe Garza stated that he was shocked by the young man’s murder.
«When I did the interview, Juan Luis himself was somewhat unhappy with how seriously I took it» he said.
The producer was referring to the fact that he didn’t celebrate El Pirata’s excessive lifestyle.
«On the contrary, I decided that my encounter with him would be a meeting to be able to tell him ‘What you are doing….'» Unfortunately, it was too late.
El Pirata de Culiacán’s mother abandoned him when he was a child
It is worth noting that there are some details mentioned here that were not included in El Pirata’s last interview.
First, he revealed that his mom abandoned him when he was a child and left him in the care of his grandmother.
«I have a sister, and she works hard. I don’t want to see my family like that, still working in the field,» El pirata de Culiacán said.
He also said he wanted to stop drinking and to be seen more as an artist.
He wanted to become a musician
In another part of this conversation, El Pirata de Culiacán made it clear that he not only partied but also appeared in videos with other artists.
However, he wanted something more. He wanted to dedicate himself to music because he wanted to learn to play the accordion.
Pepe Garza congratulated him on this decision, in addition to pointing out that he was endangering his life.
«I feel that people like me more because I ‘put myself at their service’,» El Pirata said.
El Pirata’s last interview with Pepe Garza
At some points, El Pirata de Culiacán seemed uncomfortable during the interview and gave terse answers.
He said that, in addition to his followers, his sister and his grandmother were the people who loved him the most.
«They see me joking around with everyone, and they just tell me to be very careful,» added the YouTuber.
Pepe Garza revealed that he had not consumed alcohol for over 20 years and that when he saw someone drinking a lot, he tried to warn them about the consequences.
El Pirata de Culiacán had a message
Finally, El Pirata de Culiacán did not want to say goodbye without sending a hug to all his followers.
He went on to say that he was going to continue moving forward, without imagining what would happen days later in a bar in Zapopan, Jalisco.
