- $1,000 Bonus for Leaving
According to the EFE news agency, the U.S. government has announced a significant change in immigration policy aimed at undocumented migrants who choose to voluntarily leave the country.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced Monday that it will eliminate financial penalties imposed on those who have failed to comply with deportation orders, provided they leave the country on their own initiative.
This policy will be implemented through the CBP One app, which has been recently streamlined to simplify the departure process.
Currently, an individual in irregular immigration status can be fined up to $1,000 per day for remaining in the country after receiving a final deportation order.
Undocumented Migrants Will Avoid Deportation Fines

Fines also apply to those who do not leave after receiving a voluntary departure order.
Since these policies were enacted, DHS has issued approximately 9,000 fine notifications.
The total amount accumulated from these sanctions has reached an astounding $3 billion.
The new strategy aims to encourage migrants to leave the country on their own, without having to be detained or forcibly removed.
Self-Deportation With Federal Financial Support

To achieve this, DHS has removed certain bureaucratic steps from the CBP Home app to make the process more efficient.
In addition to the fine forgiveness, those who self-deport will receive a financial incentive.
Once their return to their country of origin is confirmed, they will be granted a $1,000 bonus.
The federal government will even cover travel expenses, according to the official statement.
Deportation Fines and Official Warnings
“Self-return is the safest and most cost-effective way to leave the United States,” the statement reads.
Authorities emphasize that this option allows migrants to control the process and preserve the opportunity to return legally in the future.
“By self-deporting, undocumented migrants take control of their departure and may keep the possibility of returning legally in the future,” DHS noted.
The new policy is part of a broader strategy to more effectively manage unauthorized migration.
