According to Fox Weather, a series of heavy rains has caused severe flooding in several parts of the southeastern United States, with North Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama being particularly affected.
Millions of people remain under flood alerts as severe weather continues to impact the region with thunderstorms and torrential rain.
The epicenter of the emergency was in Charlotte, North Carolina, where nearly five inches of rain fell in just a few hours.
As a result, significant flooding was reported on several roads, prompting water rescues in areas such as Southpark Mall, located in the southern part of the city.

Emergency crews were quickly mobilized to assist trapped motorists during a day that tested the local response system.
According to the FOX Forecast Center, the heaviest rainfall in Charlotte occurred in the early hours of Tuesday afternoon before the downpour began to ease.
Meanwhile, farther south in Alabama, flooding had tragic consequences over the weekend.
One person lost their life in Cleburne County after being swept away while attempting to cross a flooded road.

The incident took place in the 3000 block of County Road 41, where two people became trapped inside a vehicle.
One of them was rescued without serious injuries, but the second was found dead shortly after by coroner Adam Downs.
Hours earlier, another person was successfully rescued on County Road 10 after their vehicle was hit by strong currents.
Both rescues were carried out by the Turkey Heaven Volunteer Fire Department, which had to respond to two emergencies in less than two hours.
Rain Will Continue to Affect the Southeastern US

These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the magnitude of flooding,” stated Fire Chief Patrick Nolen.
Local authorities have issued an urgent warning to the public to avoid driving on flooded roads, even if they appear passable.
The situation is worsening due to the presence of a stalled cold front that has dominated the region for several days, with no clear signs of dissipating.
This same system was responsible for the formation of Tropical Storm Dexter, which developed Sunday night off the coast of North Carolina.
Flooding in the Southeast: New Threats
Although Dexter is already moving away from the US coast, the current rains lashing the Southeast are not directly related to this phenomenon.
The main cause is the stationary front, which acts as a catalyst for heavy precipitation by channeling tropical moisture northward.
The FOX Forecast Center indicated that a low-level rotation zone has developed in the atmosphere, further fueling the conditions for extreme rainfall.
This system is bringing in abundant moisture, which could lead to more flooding, especially in vulnerable areas like central Georgia.
Southeastern Cities Remain on Alert
Regions such as Macon and Albany could receive between five and eight inches of rain before Thursday, increasing the risk of flash floods.
Atlanta and Tallahassee, Florida, also remain on alert, as continued rainfall is expected throughout the week.
Meanwhile, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring an area off the southeastern coast where a new tropical depression could form.
Although current odds are low, they could increase if atmospheric conditions become more favorable.
