The tragic accident, which has shocked the entire country, was the result of adverse weather conditions, including heavy rain.
The former Chilean president was aboard his personal helicopter along with three family members, including his sister, according to ABC.
The aircraft plunged into the waters of Lago Ranco, located in the Los Ríos region.
Although his companions managed to survive by jumping into the water, unfortunately, Piñera was unable to get out of the aircraft and died.
