French actor Gérard Depardieu faces a trial in October for alleged sexual assaults.

According to The Associated Press, two women have accused Depardieu of assaulting them on a movie set in 2021, prosecutors reported on Monday.

Now they are releasing more details related to the case after deciding to go forward.

Gérard Depardieu faces trial

Depardieu, 75, who had previously denied any wrongdoing, was detained for questioning by police in Paris for several hours on Monday.

His lawyer, Christian Saint-Palais, later refused to comment to reporters, beyond saying that the actor was no longer in police custody.

The Paris prosecutor’s office issued a statement indicating that the actor was «summoned to appear before the criminal court» after questioning.

The sexual assaults of both women allegedly occurred in September 2021 on the set of the film Les Volets Verts.

Women complained about Depardieu’s behavior on set

The Associated Press reported that the alleged victims were not identified in the statement.

According to the French newspaper Le Parisien, a 53-year-old set designer alleges that Depardieu grabbed her and touched her waist, belly and breasts during the filming of Les Volets Verts.

Her lawyer Carine Durrieu Diebolt filed the complaint with the Paris prosecutor’s office in February.

Depardieu has denied all accusations against him. In an open letter last October, he stated: «I have never, ever abused a woman.»

He has faced sexual assault accusations before

Gérard Depardieu has previously faced similar accusations of harassing, groping or sexually assaulting more than a dozen women.

In 2020, he was presented with preliminary charges of rape and sexual assault following accusations by actress Charlotte Arnould, according to The Associated Press.

She urged French film companies to “face the truth” about sexual violence and physical abuse during a live broadcast of the César Awards ceremony in February.
