South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem describes killing her puppy

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has sparked controversy with her forthcoming book, No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward.
In this book, Noem tells several stories that have infuriated social media users and raised questions about her suitability as Trump’s running mate.
According to The Guardian, the book includes an account in which Noem describes shooting her young dog Cricket, and then going on to kill a goat.
This has led to backlash and a wave of outrage towards the Republican governor.
She tells a horrifying story in her new book

The story of Cricket, a 14-month-old wirehaired pointer, is particularly shocking.
Noem describes how she took the puppy on a hunting trip hoping to calm her rebellious behavior, according to The Associated Press.
However, instead of learning by watching the other dogs (not a reliable training method), Cricket chased pheasants and wreaked havoc on a local farm, killing chickens and attacking livestock.
After this Kristi Noem declared that she was untrainable and, instead of rehoming her, she inexplicably led her to a gravel pit and shot her.
Is Governor Kristi Noem guilty of animal cruelty?

«I hated that dog,» Noem writes, calling her «untrainable.» In the book Noem also talks about killing a goat she described as «nasty and mean» as well as smelly.
After she failed to kill the goat with the first shot, Noem went back to her truck to get a second cartridge and shot him again.
These stories have triggered an outcry on social media and in the political sphere.
The reaction has been swift. Conservative groups and critics of Noem have used these revelations to attack her integrity and question her suitability as a political leader.
Could this help Biden?
We love animals, but tough decisions like this happen all the time on a farm. Sadly, we just had to put down 3 horses a few weeks ago that had been in our family for 25 years.

President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign has also seized on this opportunity to criticize Noem, according to The Associated Press.
They posted the story on social media along with a photo of her with Trump.
This criticism has put Noem in a defensive position, and she has turned to social media to try to justify her actions.
«We love animals, but tough decisions like this happen all the time on a farm,» she said on X, going on to say they had just put down three horses.
