How to Know If Someone Needs CPR
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can be administered in cases of electric shock, drowning, sudden illness, or other emergencies, according to a federal government document.
If a person has no pulse and is not breathing, CPR should be started immediately.
The technique combines rescue breathing and chest compressions.
Rescue breathing supplies oxygen to the lungs.
Chest compressions help keep oxygenated blood circulating.
These maneuvers are performed until breathing and heartbeat can be restored.
CPR is a life-saving technique used when a person shows no pulse and is not breathing — a reminder that rapid response can make a crucial difference in emergencies such as the Guadalajara motel death on Valentine’s Day.
