The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) of Mexico has announced an investigation for kidnapping and treason.

This is related to the illegal transfer of Ismael «El Mayo» Zambada and Joaquín Guzmán López to the United States.

The transfer occurred on July 25, on a plane with a cloned registration that departed from a runway near Culiacán, Sinaloa.

Guzmán López is accused of treason for the alleged kidnapping of Zambada.

The FGR cited Article 123 of the Federal Penal Code, which imposes penalties of 5 to 40 years in prison for treason.

The article also punishes those who deprive a person of liberty to hand them over to foreign authorities.

The FGR stated that the investigation is focused on this particular crime.

Key evidence to substantiate the treason is located in the United States.

This evidence is linked to the illegal flight and the plane with a cloned registration.

The plane’s pilot concealed information until reaching the border with the United States.

In Santa Teresa, New Mexico, a ministerial and investigative procedure was carried out unsuccessfully to obtain key data.

The FGR requested documents from the U.S. Department of Justice related to the flight authorization and reception at the airport.

The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, stated that the U.S. canceled Zambada’s extradition request.

Washington already had Zambada and Guzmán López on its territory since July 25.

López Obrador insisted that the U.S. has not provided all the information about Zambada’s capture. He doubts that U.S. agents did not operate on Mexican soil, as claimed by Ambassador Ken Salazar.

López Obrador asked the FGR to make progress in the investigation into the capture
