Vice President of the United States and Democratic White House candidate, Kamala Harris, will announce this Friday in North Carolina her proposal to implement a federal ban on food price manipulation.
This will be her first economic policy speech in her presidential campaign.
Harris’s proposal aims to prevent food sector companies from unjustifiably increasing prices.
Harris’s campaign reported that, if elected president, she will implement this ban within her first 100 days in office. The measure will establish clear rules to prevent large corporations from artificially raising prices to maximize their profits.

The plan will also empower state attorneys general and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to investigate and penalize companies that violate this ban.
Additionally, investments will be allocated to combat anti-competitive practices and support small businesses within the food industry, such as independent meat processors.
In her speech, Harris will highlight the disproportionate influence of large corporations in the meat industry, where only four companies dominate the market and have reported record profits post-pandemic.
The Vice President will argue that the lack of competition allows these industries to set high prices and reduce what they pay to livestock producers.
Kamala Harris contrasts this economic proposal with Trump’s policies
Harris will contrast her economic proposal with the policy of former president and Republican candidate, Donald Trump.
This speech comes at a crucial moment, with the economy being a central theme for voters in the upcoming elections.
A recent NPR and PBS survey shows a divided opinion among Americans on who would better handle the economy: 51% prefer Trump, while 48% opt for Harris.
Additionally, Kamala Harris will participate today in a rally with President Joe Biden to discuss the Administration’s efforts to reduce drug prices.
